Iraqi man who served as an emir of the Islamic extremist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. He was considered a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the U.S. State Department, who issued a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture or death in 2011.
Until 2004, he lived in a room attached to mosque in the impoverished neighborhood of Tobchi. He is thought to have earned a PhD in Islamic studies from the Islamic University of Baghdad.
He planned the suicide bombing at the Umm al-Qura Mosque in Baghdad in August 2011.
