Remembered primarily for his New York stage career, this Northern Irish-born actor performed in over thirty Broadway productions, including Tomorrow’s a Holiday (1935-36), Polly with a Past (1917-1918), The Lottery Man (1909-1910) and A Runaway Girl (1898-1899).

He made his Broadway debut in the 1893 production of The Girl I Left Behind Me and appeared in his first film, Arizona, in 1913.

He joined theatrical companies that counted among their ranks such prominent members as Richard Mansfield, Minnie Maddern Fiske, and Lotta Crabtree. Also a silent film actor, he appeared in features such as The Day of Days (1914) and His Loyal Highness (1932).

He spent his youth in Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland, and later relocated to New York City. He was married to actress Louise Eissing until her suicide in the early 1920s.

He appeared in several musical theater productions with the popular entertainer DeWolf Hopper.
