She was the daughter of a University of Cambridge research scientist who encouraged her study of art.
Her pottery and ceramics pieces were collected by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Ashmolean Museum, among other galleries.
She divorced Waters, who was her childhood sweetheart and first husband, after he admitted to cheating on her. In 1996, she married architect and artist Leonard Hessing, with whom she had one child prior to her 2001 death from breast cancer.
Her relationship with Waters was tumultuous, but he inspired the music of Ani Difranco and other prominent singer-songwriters.
